Children's Self Defense and Safety Tips for Internet Safety, Abduction Prevention, Kids Self Protection
Be Alert
Kids: Trust your feelings and intuition. Fear is a survival signal to alert us to dangers in our immediate environment.
Parents: Teach children to trust this gut feeling and take action to change their circumstances. Teach them what to look for in a dangerous situation and discuss options for escape.
Be Armed
Kids: It is important to be trained in how to use your survival skills, safety smarts and street savvy thinking. Your best weapon is a trained mind. It's OK to say NO! - even to adults when it comes to safety.
Parents: Teach children to recognize dangerous situations so that they are alerted to potential danger and armed with skills to get to safety. Encourage open communication and have safety chats often.
Role Play
What would you do if...
Play the "opposite game". If you are told to do something by a suspicious person, you should do the opposite. "Be quiet.", means to be as loud as you can. "Come with me.", means to escape and avoid going with them at all costs. "Don't tell" means to tell immediately. "Stop fighting me." means to keep fighting as hard as you can. "Don't run or try to get away." means run and get away. Bad guys often tell you what to do to best escape. Are you listening?
