#1 Character Development Center in Phoenix - Phoenix Martial Arts School Finds Niche

Happy, Healthy, Confident Kids with Character and Values

Parents are usually skeptical when we tell them that our program will change their childs life forever.  I don't blame them.  Most people aren't familiar with our unique Martial Arts character development program because it isn't something most people in the USA grew up with.  Furthermore, there are lots of mediocre Taekwondo, Karate, Kung Fu and other martial arts schools who do not emphasize these things.  However, in Asia, traditional martial arts training has long been established as a potent and vital success tool for helping children:

  • Live happier, more secure and confident lives
  • Improve grades and academic efficiency
  • Instill healthy habits of exercise, nutrition and fitness
  • Anchor solid character traits and leadership skills
  • Instill values of good citizenship and reinforce values taught in the home
  • Improve social skills, focus, self control and develop self discipline

Many people still think that Martial Arts is just kicks and punches.  While that may be true for some Martial Arts schools, our unique program emphasizes character development and believes in building a student from the inside out.  At the beginning of every USA Martial Arts Phoenix class students recite the TENETS:

As a dedicated student of the martial arts, I will live my life by the principles of Black Belt

  • Modesty
  • Courtesy
  • Integrity
  • Perseverance
  • Self Control
  • Indomitable Spirit

Parents are more concerned about their child's education today than any other time...making USA Martial Arts Phoenix school the #1 Character Development center in the Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley Arizona area is the key to success.  USA Martial Arts Phoenix program will do this for your son or daughter too.

Give it a try and find out how fun learning martial arts in a supportive atmosphere can be.

Traditional Mixed Martial Arts for Children & Adults: Taekwondo, Karate, Self Defense, Kickboxing

USA Martial Arts Phoenix is a traditional mixed martial arts studio based in North Phoenix Arizona.  Our curriculum is what we like to call integrative martial arts because it incorporates traditional martial arts discipline, philosophy and values with practical modern self defense.
We offer classes for children, teens, and adults. Building on a foundation of American karate, we incorporate elements of Taekwondo, boxing, kickboxing, MMA, grappling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and street smart self-defense.

Learn focus and discipline in a fun environment!

Dear Phoenix and Scottsdale Parents:
Take a moment to imagine how different life will be when your child…
  • Has the confidence and self-esteem not only to stand up to bullies, but to easily make new friends.
  • Learns how to focus and listen, causing less stress at home and getting better grades at school.
  • Learns how to use self-discipline and focus to excel at school and develop a love for learning.
You don’t just have to imagine it. These changes can really happen.

Martial arts transforms lives… so put its power to work for your family.

We’re passionate about what we do at USA Martial Arts Phoenix because every single day, we see exactly how life-transforming the study of martial arts can be.
One girl was terrified at first and cried uncontrollably during her first karate class. A couple years later she has not only blossomed into a very promising young martial artist; she’s even training to become an instructor!
Another child would spend the entire class jumping and up and down as if he were a rubber bouncy ball. He didn’t listen well and would get distracted easily. Over the months, his ability to focus and capacity for self-control has increased so dramatically that he’s now able to lead his class through the warm-up exercises!
The beauty of martial arts is that it’s all about reaching your personal best — and that’s what we help our students do each and every day at USA Martial Arts Phoenix, a top karate school in Phoenix Arizona.

Your child will learn practical, life-saving skills AND get a great workout!

You now know that karate for kids can help your child develop confidence, self-esteem, focus, self-control, and discipline. But you may be wondering: “Is my child actually going to break a sweat?”
Absolutely! Not only do our kids karate classes offer an excellent blend of cardio, strength training, and flexibility conditioning; they also teach students how to defend themselves and their loved ones.
In other words, karate for kids is a workout with a purpose.
USA Martial Arts is a mixed martial arts school. We’ve taken elements of American karate, Taekwondo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, boxing, kickboxing, and self-defense, and remixed them into a well-rounded curriculum that gives you the best that martial arts has to offer:
Practical self-defense and striking skills:
Your child will learn how to escape a variety of attacks, including chokes, grabs, bear hugs, pushes, and headlocks. Your child will learn how to use speed and focus to generate the maximum amount of power in their kicks and punches, thus incapacitating their opponent after they escape an attack.
Sport and competition:
Your child will learn sparring techniques – combinations of kicks and punches designed to disable an opponent – and test out what they have learned in a controlled environment by competing in karate tournaments.
Performance:
Your child will learn forms, or hyngs/katas, which are a series of punches and kicks executed in the air with stepping and turning. Your child will also learn how to perform using traditional martial arts weapons, such as nunchucks and kamas.
Why do we include all three of these elements in our Kids Karate and Children Taekwondo curriculum?
Because as a top karate school in Phoenix, we want our black belts to have a well-rounded martial arts education.
Our Black Belts know the tradition of martial arts but also understand its real-world application. They know how to defend themselves, but also appreciate the beauty of martial arts as a performance. They know the excitement of competing in martial arts as a sport, but they are also focused on reaching their personal best.

Your child won’t get bored because we have a fool-proof motivational system.

The ultimate goal for many of our students is to earn their black belt. But considering that it can take anywhere from 3 to 6 years of martial arts training to achieve this goal, how can they stay motivated along the way?
As the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu once said, “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” In other words, if you want to achieve a big goal, you must break it into smaller goals.
Every 3 months, our students can test for their next belt rank (e.g. from white to yellow). But along the way, they also have an opportunity to earn a stripe every 2 weeks.
By achieving these smaller goals that build up to a bigger goal, our students stay motivated and excited about their martial arts training.

We expect commitment and excellence from you and your child.

USA Martial Arts is a Black Belt excellence character education school.
Our mission is to train black belts from the inside out, and that means we expect commitment and excellence from both our students and their parents.
We take attendance very seriously because the curriculum in our kids karate classes is so rigorous. Students must come to class regularly to learn the required material.
If you’re not here, you’re not learning, and you’re not getting any closer to earning your black belt. That’s why if we notice that you’ve been missing classes, we’ll call and email you to get you back in class as soon as possible.
USA Martial Arts Phoenix students earn their belts if and only if they demonstrate they have learned that cycle’s material. And because we hand out print-outs of the new curriculum and discuss goals with parents, there’s no guesswork involved: you’ll know exactly what’s expected from your child.

Your child will receive a rigorous martial arts education in a fun, fast-paced environment.

USA Martial Arts Phoenix has become a top karate school in Phoenix Arizona because we offer the best of both worlds: the rigor and intensity of a traditional karate school with the fun and fast pace of a modern karate school.
We’ve designed our fast-paced karate classes in such a way that your child will experience a thrilling sequence of non-stop exercises, drills, and games.
We also hold lots of fun events throughout the year: from board-breaking extravaganzas to indoor beach parties, from glow-in-the-dark nunchuck seminars to Halloween costume parties.
We’re proud of the culture we’ve built here at USA Martial Arts Phoenix, and we can’t wait to help your family achieve its goals!

We’re Not Competing With Other Martial Arts Schools

By http://usa-martialarts.com & KidsLoveMartialArtsPhoenix.com

Much more than kicks, punches, blocks and throws.

When I started teaching martial arts at age 14 in my first teachers Taekwondo Kung Fu school I made up my mind that I was not ever in competition with other martial arts schools. Here I am 6 degrees of Black Belt and nearly 26 years later, having studied all over the world and taught thousands, still holding firm to that belief.

I love martial arts… all of them. I love martial artists.

We are all part of the same big family. It is in our diversity, each having our own gifts and abilities, that we have strength. We need every instructor and school to serve our communities in combating the issues men, women and children face these days.

I believe martial arts has the answers to so many of today’s problems that children and over-taxed adults encounter.

So what are we competing with?

Ignorance, glamorized violence, cruelty, bad manners, low self esteem, fear and self-doubt, poor health such as obesity, heart disease, undisciplined eating habits. If anything, we are competing with the ever-growing allure of stimulating video games and media that can influence an imbalance in life, disrupt healthy relationships and social skill development.

We’re competing with indifference in patriotism, a sense of community and fading American family values like serving a cause greater than one’s self. We’re competing with the disintegration of the family unit (because we provide a healthy activity the whole family can do together and reinforce respect at home).

Martial Arts can resolve these problems. There is no question it saves lives in self-defense situations as history clearly proves that. It is unparalleled in handling bullies and non-violent conflict resolution.  But more importantly, Martial Arts can equip people, especially the next generation, with the leadership skills, character, and a strong spirit to face challenges head-on in an ever changing world.

Where else can parents choose their child’s peer group and surround them with polite, goal oriented, values centered friends who are all engaged in a healthy lifestyle? It’s one stop shopping rather than being a Mom taxi toting the kids from one activity to another in hopes of gaining these essential skills.

We have thousands of letters on file from ecstatic parents touting the amazing transformational power of our martial arts program on their children. It goes so far beyond the kicks, punches, blocks and throws. That’s because our role-model instructors teach martial arts as a philosophy and load it with life skills through experiential learning.  Simply put, they walk the talk.

Why are more and more parents choosing martial arts? Because it works in a rapidly changing world and they want their kids to have the edge in school and life.

Consider martial arts for your family today. Even if it isn’t our school, find one that suits your goals and personality. Try a few out, watch a class and speak to the instructors. You may be surprised at the value you find.

Beware… it just might change your lives forever.

Who is a Mighty Person?

Who is a mighty person?
One who can make friends of his enemies.

This is one of the early lessons I learned from my Martial Arts teaching mentor Shihan Dave Kovar.  It is fundamental to many of us classically trained martial artists whom had the benefit of an ethical honor code education.

As kid in martial arts my enemies weren’t always bad guys, bullies and strangers as would-be abductors.  My enemies, as with most of us, were much more insidious because they were disguised in a one might not expect.  The enemy of asthma took oxygen from my body and mind so I could not function or recover well.

Ask any fighter or MMA athlete whose stepped into a UFC Octagon what having handcuffs on your lungs from a lack of cardio conditioning will do.  Even the best pro athletes from Olympic Champs to NFL linebackers can be made into mice in high altitude training when you take their air.  When you are ‘gassed out’ it saps your will.

Another problem that made that enemy bigger is that it also leads to a greater issue of self doubt.  My poor self image was based on a belief of limitations and what I couldn’t do.  It is a filter from which you begin to form all beliefs and make decisions.  It can start with one thing and have a domino effect.

But this isn’t a sad story.  In fact, it’s the opposite.  Through my training in martial arts I learned to be mindful, set goals, work for improvement.  I learned to apply its principles and strategies to my life in ways I hadn’t anticipated. Asthma is just one example of a challenge to deal with.  It could have been stress, being overweight and undisciplined or a variety of other obstacles.

My struggle with asthma and health gave me the opportunity to learn things I might not have.  With the help of martial arts, I developed depth of character, determination and the ability to work patiently, methodically and in a disciplined way towards goals.  I learned to not give up, despite what I was feeling at an emotional level.  Working to overcome asthma also helped me get more in tune with my body.  Just like muscle is built through resistance, asthma and allergies provided me the resistance to build emotional and mental muscle.

It wasn’t easy and I sure had lots of setbacks, but those are good reference points for me in times of struggle.  It helped me learn to move forward on faith with optimism and seek out the help I needed to get to my goals.

On numerous occasions in the Army, in competition or other difficult endeavors, while I saw others give up, I knew how to dig down deep into myself and find new levels of strength through my martial arts indomitable spirit.  Asthma, while I would never wish it on anyone else, was a blessing in disguise.  Perhaps difficulties and struggles are someitmes an opportunity to bring out our inner strength and beauty.

You can follow my blog and find out about my adventures at the Shaolin Temple, Olympic Training Center, training with Masters in Korea, being in movies, sparring with legends like UFC Champ Jiu-jitsu Master Royce Gracie, and some unique and interesting lessons along the way.  Plus, I’ll share some secrets to realistic self-defense, personal security, and character and leadership development.  You might even get inspired too!  http://usamartialartshq.blogspot.com
