BullyProof Your Child - Certification Training for Parents, Teachers and Youth Leaders in Phoenix AZ

BullyProof Your Child - Certification Training for Parents, Teachers and Youth Leaders

Bodyguard trainer says the reason reports of bullying on the rise is because adults are encouraging victim culture and creating soft target kids.

Following the flood of media reports on bullying, cyber bullying related teen suicide, some parents and teachers are taking steps to prepare children for the hazards they face in school, camp and life.
In addition to fire safety, internet safety, how to swim, the 911 emergency system, parents are adding sexual abuse prevention, self defense from depression, obesity, diabetes and BULLYING.
They are doing this with a unique program developed by safety specialist and bodyguard trainer John Nottingham.
John Nottingham has been on the front lines of bullying prevention for nearly thirty years teaching children, men and women how to handle bullying effectively.  He uses a method developed from strategies he teaches to bodyguards to spot potential problems in advance, redirect behavior with words, and change the context of a would be bullying situation.

Few circumstances are more frustrating for parents and family than when their child is the target of bullying.
More and more Phoenix parents are preparing their children for back to school over the summer with a unique kids summer camp in Arizona.  USA Martial Arts Summer Camp teaches John Nottingham's BULLY-PROOF VEST - How To Handle Bullying Like a Bodyguard.  It's a proven method for handling bullying like a bodyguard for nearly 30 years.

Redirecting Behavior With Words - Wage Peace

Here are new bullying comeback lines you can use to handle a bullying situation.
  • Deadpan Bullying Comeback: "Why do you waste your time saying that stuff to me?"
  • Deadpan Bullying Comeback: "I'm not sure why you keep saying these things to me, but it really doesn't matter."
  • Deadpan Bullying Comeback: "Okay. Finished?"
  • Deadpan Bullying Comeback: "That's funny, but now I'm bored."
  • Deadpan Bullying Comeback: "Those things are ridiculous, but whatever."
  • Deadpan Bullying Comeback: "Here we go again, tell me when you are done."
  • Deadpan Bullying Comeback: "I don't do this to you. You should really think about what kind of person you are acting like."
Remember that it's not just what you say but HOW you say it. Your body language, tone and delivery are key to making these work.
Be Water When They Are Fire.  It's really hard to continue to be mean to someone when they are strong enough to stay nice.  Eventually, most people will learn to respect you and become your friend.  Only in rare cases do people continue after you have shown that you will not get angry or allow yourself to react in an exaggerated manner.  Be kind, compassionate and loving and you will be surprised at how others will treat you.  At first, it usually gets worse, but then it gets better as they learn how to treat you.  Many times, you will have earned their respect and become friends.

Who is mighty? One who has self control and can make friends from enemies.
Cyber bullying, also known as electronic bullying or online social cruelty, is defined as bullying through a variety of mediums including:
  • email
  • IM - instant messaging
  • Chat rooms
  • Websites
  • Gaming sites
  • Text messages through cell-phones
  • Pictures and videos
  • Whatever new technology is adopted by this demographic
 Solutions:

  • Inform them to stop
  • Turn it off
  • Create new screen name and identity
  • Document and keep records of everything
  • Report it if necessary
  • Don't respond [starved response]
  • Give them options to be friendly or documented

New Bullying Prevention Organization Offers Scholarships to Anti-Bullying Academy

New Bullying Prevention Organization Offers Scholarships to Anti-Bullying Academy and Teaches Kids How to Be Their Own Bullying Bodyguard

BULLY Movie Raises Awareness and Prompts Parents To Seek Training for Kids
With the launch of the new movie BULLY, some parents are seeking expert advice on how to train their children how to properly handle bullying.  A new organization called the Bullying Prevention Initiative International is opening up new chapters of Bullying Prevention training programs including one here in Phoenix Arizona.

Founder John Nottingham knows what it's like to be bullied and that's why he created this organization and network.  His goal is to train teachers, parents and children to effectively handle bullying in the most peaceful and practical way.

His Phoenix Martial Arts school is spearheading the program with sponsorship from his Security and Bodyguard Agency.
"We're offering free BullyProofing workshops to children who are being bullied.  Additionally, we have a growing network of affiliate training centers, mostly martial arts schools, who are teaching our specialized curriculum.  It includes verbal judo, conflict resolution skills, confidence building and physical, online and mental bullying prevention.", said Bullying Specialist John Nottingham

Nottingham's BullyProof Vest program offers a much different approach to the standard school-wide Anti-Bully programs you may see in schools.  He says he created the organization because children were falling through the cracks with those failed programs.  Having successfully taught men, women, boys and girls how to successfully deal with bullying over the past 26 years, he felt compelled to take action.

Bully Self Defense The Proven, Peaceful, Practical & Powerful Way

Bully Self Defense The Proven, Peaceful, Practical & Powerful Way

Listen Free to Bullying Specialist John Nottingham's Radio Interview on Bully Busters

Bullying In Arizona and America

Arizona has adopted one of the more expensive and ineffective bullying prevention programs.  On a regular basis we see children who have fallen through the cracks and need help with bullying.  "Their parents are desperate to get them help that provides practical solutions to real life bullying problems."  When your childs school anti-bullying program has failed, where can you turn?  Now you can have answers from professional protectors, not impotent, fearful professional pencil pushers.

Bullying has become a prevalent problem in American Society and a hot topic in Arizona.

Bullying is a widespread and serious problem that can happen anywhere. It is not a phase children have to go through, it is not "just messing around", and it is not something to grow out of. Bullying can cause serious and lasting harm.

The three conditions need to exist to be categorized as bullying behavior:
  • Imbalance of Power: people who bully use their power to control or harm and the people being bullied may have a hard time defending themselves
  • Intent to Cause Harm: actions done by accident are not bullying; the person bullying has a goal to cause harm [This has since been called into question as a defining criteria.]
  • Repetition: incidents of bullying happen to the same the person over and over by the same person or group
Bullying Fact: Bullying is the #1 reason for absenteeism in schools.
What Are The Types of Bullying?
  • Physical: kicking, pinching, punching, slapping, poking, hitting, pinning, pulling, tripping, shoving
  • Verbal: harassment, name-calling, teasing, taunting, insulting, mocking
  • Social: spreading rumors, leaving people out on purpose, breaking up friendships
  • Cyberbullying: using the Internet, mobile phones or other digital technologies to harm others

Founder Was Target of Bullying

Founder, John Nottingham was the target of bullying and understands the pain, anguish, and trauma bullying can cause.  That is why John is so passionate about this subject.
Feeling bullied and powerless was one of the primary reasons John Nottingham joined martial arts.

If you feel powerless, trapped and frustrated as the target of bullying in school, at home, in the street, and on the playground then you have found an ally in John Nottingham.

Once John started training with martial arts, the bullying stopped almost instantly.  Once you know how to protect yourself and have these Bully Proofing skills, it makes a difference.  You carry yourself differently, address people differently and see problems in a whole new way.
The empathy, compassion from remembering the feeling of helplessness is what makes our instructors so motivated to help children like us who experienced bullying.

Teaching Control - Not Violence

Some bullying prevention methods encourage violence, that is being a bigger bully and teaching them a lesson.  They forget that this often makes things worse and can escalate a situation to very dangerous levels of force.  Some other martial arts systems teach higher violence against violence which can get children into serious trouble, including with the law.

"Our techniques are derived from teaching bouncers, law enforcement and bodyguards how to intercept violence before it begins and neutralize it in the most peaceful way possible.  Just as we do for law enforcement, we reverse engineer bullying attack scenarios children face and make them age appropriate.  We use strategy, leverage, distraction and mechanics to resolve bullying attacks. They are simple, proven and step by step bully violence neutralization techniques, concepts and principles that de-escalate a self defense situation."

Bully Defense The Wrong Way

Many martial arts (and hand to hand combat systems) teach a child to react with striking such as punches, kicks, knees, and elbows. These are problematic with school policies, not camera friendly, and can cause serious damage to another child.  In our oppinion, the punitive and percussive methods also may have a higher likelihood of escalating violence, retaliation or revenge attacks.

Bully Defense The Right and Responsible Way

The Bully Proof Vest Self Defense program starts by teaching children how to recognize danger and avoid it.  Then they learn to verbally defuse potentially violent situations, to stop an attack or fight before it starts. However, if attacked, our students know force specific restraining self defense techniques that are defensive, use no striking, and can non-violently neutralize a bully attack.

Fighting Fire With Water Peaceful Bully Solutions

The confidence provided by the Bully Self Defense program teaches our students, as the John Nottingham says, “to fight fire, be water and extinguish the flames.”

What Makes Our Bullying Solutions Approach Unique?
  • Peaceful approach where physical intervention (self defense) is the last resort
  • Based on Proven Bodyguard Tactics
  • Builds The Individual's Confidence and Inner Strength
  • Encourages Empathy, Kindness and Courage
  • Force Appropriate So Children Don't Go Overboard (It protects both children)
  • Proven practical for over 25 years - research and evidence based
  • Fun teaching method that is age appropriate
  • Continually updated and improved
Get started today and ARM your child with self confidence and inner strength to life a life of happiness and peace of mind.

Halloween Trick or Treat - Be Wise, Worry Less

Our friends at Kidpower Teenpower Fullpower International has launched a One Million Safer Kids Campaign. Violence Against Young People — All Kinds and Too Much
The organization specializes in building awareness through education and interactive training.

After 22 years of providing safety education through Kidpower, we’ve seen again and again how a few simple skills can stop most attempts of bullying, abuse, kidnapping, and other violence. Violence Against Young People — All Kinds and Too Much

The organization has also issued an article for Halloween and keeping your kids safe.

Stay Aware: The Halloween “Trick” what will “Treat” you and your family to safety all year long

In the article they share some important safety tips that include avoiding the "illusion of safety". These are important lessons that we at USA Martial Arts Phoenix teach and advocate.

Safety does not take a holiday. Don’t let the relaxed atmosphere and distractions of holiday activities fool you into getting trapped by the Illusion of Safety. Stay aware of where your children are, whom they are with, and what they are doing.

We also want to remind you that this is a great teachable time for you and your children. All life is risk. While we must be vigilant at times like Halloween and trick or treating, we must remember that children are at greater risk from harm from people they know. It is those we refuse to suspect that are usually the ones we need most to suspect.

During this Halloween holiday with trick or treating, parents have the opportunity to help your child develop great safety skills by learning to trust their natural survival instincts, their intuition and make better choices. Remember that privacy and control are the setting for abuse. We recommend that you take them out trick-or-treating and show them how to build strong safety habits. Teach them how to talk to people, introduce themselves, recognize potentially dangerous situations, access help, get attention, and build confidence.

Teach Your Child Stranger Danger? Think Again.

Rather than instill in children a fear of strangers or ad worry to their lives, instead, teach them how to engage and assess people they meet. Instead of "don't talk to strangers", teach them how to talk to strangers and trust their safety habits and "Gift of Fear". These lessons can serve them for the rest of their lives. Then your child can live without worry, anxiety and can have confidence and power.

Take this time to build a relationship and open dialog where your child knows they can talk to you about safety subjects such as bullying, inapropriate touching, abductions, cyber crimes and the dangers that exist in our world. It can be as easy as integrating the lessons into every day life, much the same as you would teach them how to safely cross the street. It need not be alarmist or cause a child unwarranted fear, worry and stress.

Our recommendation is to monitor, role play and inspect what you expect from your child. Teach them to honor their true Gift of Fear (prompted by things from their environment, not from imagination or memory) and take action on it. This gives you the ability to help them along the way as a safety advocate and guide their steps to good self-defense habits.
